San Manuel Band of Mission Indians

Michael Hoenig is Vice President of the Associate General Counsel for Gaming for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians in California, where he advises the Nation, its gaming entities, and the Tribal Gaming Commission on a variety of matters. In addition to his work with San Manuel, Michael teaches Indian Gaming at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Prior to his work at San Manuel, Michael spent 16 years serving as an Attorney for the National Indian Gaming Commission, the last seven of which as General Counsel. In his time at the NIGC, Michael’s work touched on nearly every aspect of Indian gaming, including working with the Department of Justice and fellow agencies on litigation, drafting regulations, advising the Chair and the Commission on compliance and enforcement matters, and reviewing and issuing declination letters, land eligibility opinions, and game classification opinions.
