Michael Hollowell is an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and has served in-house for the Redding Rancheria since September 2017. Michael received his bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering from Arizona State University and earned his law degree, along with a Certificate in Indigenous Law and Policy, from Michigan State University College of Law. As Attorney General, Michael oversees the legal affairs of the Redding Rancheria, advises on all aspects of economic development both on- and off-reservation, and focuses his practice on advancing tribal self-determination through self-governance.

Tribal Court Forms and Subpoenas – How Tribes Preserve Sovereign Immunity When Responding to Requests from Federal, State, and Local Governments for Tribal Property or Tribal-Employee Testimony
Redding Rancheria has successfully created a Tribal Court Form that U.S. attorneys, the local District Attorney and Public Defender, and other third-party attorneys use to request and potentially obtain tribal property or tribal employee testimony. With this approach, the tribe preserves sovereign immunity while cooperating with federal, state, and local governments. Join Chantal Reyes, Heaven Collins, and Michael Hollowell for an interactive session which will include a refresher on sovereign immunity and a robust discussion surrounding the use of Tribal Court Forms and Tribal Court Subpoenas.
