Tribal Responses to ICE Interactions and Navigating Tribal Nations’ Relationships with ICE and CBP

2025 saw an increase in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) interactions with Indian Country. In some cases, ICE agents unlawfully stopped and detained Tribal citizens and descendants. In other cases, Tribal Nations leveraged their own relationships with ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to address an increased ICE presence in Indian Country. This session will provide refreshed guidance on ICE interactions with Tribal citizens and Tribal Nations, and address how legal practitioners are holding ICE accountable for unlawful interactions. This session will also cover policy responses to increased ICE interactions with Indian Country and provide insight into how certain Tribal Nations have navigated their longstanding relationships with ICE and CBP.
